About Me - Ms. R. McNeil

Dear Parents and Students,

It is my great pleasure to be teaching my tenth year in sixth grade at Rogers Park.  I am looking forward to getting to know you over this coming year. Since I will be sending home requests for parent information, it is only fair that I tell you a bit about myself.  I was born and raised here in Anchorage, and I have lived here all my life except for my time at college. I attended college in Minnesota, where I received my degree in Elementary Education and a minor in mathematics.  Math has always been one of my favorite subjects, and I have been known to spend my spare time solving math problems. I received my masters in Math Education from UAS.

I enjoy a variety of different activities.  I love to crochet and also spend a considerable amount of time knitting.  I am an avid reader and am rarely found without a book nearby. I enjoy reading everything from the classics to picture books (The Once and Future King by T.H. White and the Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems are among my all-time favorites).  I also like bowling (which I did competitively for many years), skiing (both cross-country and downhill), biking, and rock climbing.  I love elephants, as most people find out quickly from my decorating. I was very excited to get to go to Thailand and have the opportunity to go on an elephant trail ride.  I love to travel, and I have been all over Europe, from Italy to Ireland. My most recent trips were to New Zealand, Scandinavia, Iceland, and a road trip to Washington, DC for the National History Day competition.

I know this will be a great year full of new experiences and learning opportunities.  It is an honor to be your child’s teacher this year.

Sincerely,

Ms. R. McNeil
